CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Deep down PGA Tour players are not that much different than everyday high-handicaps, at least equipment wise. Consider Geoff Ogilvy who just hours before he teed off and blitzed Quail Hollow to the tune of a 4-under 68 put a new driver in his bag.
Dale Lynch, Ogilvy’s swing coach, said his man tinkered with the new driver late Wednesday afternoon in an attempt to improve his accuracy.
“He hits it straighter but shorter,” Lynch said. “He added some loft, shortened the shaft to get the ball to draw.”
The move seemed to work just fine, the Australian hit 50 percent of Quail Hollow’s fairways on Thursday.
