DORAL, Fla. – USA Golf announced on Tuesday that Adidas Golf has been named the official uniform provider of the U.S. Olympic team for the 2016 Games in Brazil.
Adidas will provide clothing for the U.S. team and introduce a line of USA Golf branded appeal. An official with USA Golf said the team uniforms would be developed in 2015 and unveiled in early 2016.
What still remains to be seen is how developed the golf course will be for the 2016 Games. Construction delays have pushed back a possible test event from early next year to possibly early ’16.
“It’s taken us a little longer than we would have liked to get to this point,” said Ty Votaw, the vice president of the International Golf Foundation which oversees golf’s inclusion in the Olympics.
When asked when he expected construction crews to start growing grass on the Olympic course, Votaw said, “soon.”
It also remains unclear which event will be the course’s test event, but the newly created Latin America Amateur Championship has been the tournament mentioned the most as a possible dry run for the Gil Hanse design.
Votaw also said the IGF is close to having the selection criteria approved for the Games. Both the men’s and women’s events, which will be played in consecutive weeks with the men playing first, will include 60 players chosen from the World Golf Ranking.
