SANDWICH, England – As Darren Clark made his way onto the grounds Sunday at Royal St. George’s, Dr. Bob Rotella immediately liked what he saw.
“When I saw him walk in and he’s signing autographs and smiling, I thought he’s relaxed, he’s in a good state of mind,” said the renowned sports psychologist, who had previously worked with Clarke for years, but the two reconnected this week. “Whenever we see each other he usually plays good. When he’s happy with his putting it takes all the pressure off his long game.”
On cue, Clarke happily birdied the second hole from 4 feet and saved par at the third from 7 feet to move to 6 under, three shots clear of the field.
