TCU All-American Julien Brun became the sixth amateur to win on the European Challenge Tour, capturing the Allianz Golf Open in Seilh, France, on Sunday.
Brun, a 20-year-old sophomore for the Horned Frogs, shot a final-round 70 Sunday to post 13-under 271 and edge Matteo Delpodio by a stroke. Former Oklahoma State All-American Peter Uihlein tied for fifth.
“It feels great,” Brun told the European Tour’s website. “I’m a little surprised; I don’t really know what to say. Maybe next week I will be able to describe my feelings a bit better, once it’s sunk in a little more. I felt a lot of pressure out there, because there were big crowds following me and I really wanted to win.”
Brun, the runner-up at last year’s NCAA Championship, is the 13th-ranked player in the R&A’s world amateur ranking. He will represent France at the upcoming World Amateur Team Championship in Turkey.
Brun’s victory at the Allianz Open guarantees him a spot on the European Challenge Tour for next season, and the Frenchman will decide in the next few weeks whether to pursue a pro career or continue at TCU.
