OAKMONT, Pa. – Kelli Shean, the South African amateur who captured the imagination of fans at Oakmont with her first-round run up the leaderboard, will easily make the cut at the U.S. Women's Open despite faltering to a 79 in the second round.
Shean immediately got a sense of her newfound popularity opening up her Facebook account after the first round.
“My Facebook was overloaded,” she said. “I had over 60 friend requests and so many messages.
“I had a couple high school friends speak to me on Facebook. I haven’t spoken to them in forever.”
Shean, 22, a senior to be at the University of Arkansas, is playing her first major.
