Arnies grandson turns pro

Sam Saunders is officially pursuing the professional career that made his grandfather so beloved.

Saunders, the grandson of Arnold Palmer, signed the paperwork that made him a professional two days after missing the cut at the U.S. Amateur at Southern Hills. He turned pro registering for the Minor League Golf Tour event Thursday morning at Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach, Fla. Then he went out and shot a 1-under-par 70 in his pro debut. That’s four shots off the lead and good for a tie for 13th in the 38-player field. There’s a $1,700 first-place check up for grabs in the two-day event. Saunders had one year of eligibility left at Clemson.
