KOHLER, Wis. – Se Ri Pak opened the U.S. Women’s Open with back-to-back birdies Thursday at Blackwolf Run.
It all felt so familiar, with Pak having won this championship when it was played here in 1998, but Pak tells a different story.
“It felt like a totally different course,” Pak, 34, said after opening with an even-par 72. “But I have such great memories from ’98, so that no matter what, I feel really great.”
Blackwolf Run is playing 500 yards longer on the scorecard than it did in ’98. Plus, the grasses are all new, making the course play firmer and faster.
When Pak won here, she opened with a 69, but she likes her position again and the way she is playing.
“I wish I could do it one more time, but we’ll see,” Pak said.
