Bruised Brothers together at Shark Shootout

NAPLES, Fla. – Ian Poulter and Dustin Johnson aren't paired together in the Shark Shootout because of the empathy they have for each other, but they do share a strong bond as teammates.

In the media room here, you felt their connection in an amusing moment.

With Poulter alluding to how dropping his ball on his ball mark cost him in a playoff loss to Robert Karlsson at the Dubai World Championships two weeks ago, Johnson leaned over toward him.

“I feel for you,” Johnson said.

Johnson, of course, lost a chance at getting in the playoff Martin Kaymer won against Bubba Watson at the PGA Championship in August.

“Dustin has been in the same situation,” Poulter said. “You can’t let it get you down for long.”

The “rules gaffe” connection wasn’t intentional. This pairing was made long before Poulter was penalized at Dubai, but you wonder if they’ll talk about it this week. Probably not.

“It’s all forgotten about,” Poulter said. “Let’s just keep moving forward.”
