Watson posts first-round 66 at Bridgestone

Bubba Watson

AKRON, Ohio – Never one to mince words, Bubba Watson was asked after an opening-round 4-under 66 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational to name his best shot of the day.

“The last one,” he said with a smile.

When prodded for more info, the reigning Masters champion revealed, “It was a 12‑foot putt for birdie on No. 9 (his final hole), so I didn't have to two‑putt.”

It was one of five birdies that along with an eagle helped Watson climb the early leaderboard – and just more of the same for a player who has 11 top-25 results in 13 starts this season.

“I've been playing good all year,” he said. “It's not like I've missed every cut all year and this is just a weird round. This is just a solid round, first day of the tournament. We've got three more days. If I do it three more days, then I'd love it. But I've still got three more days to produce good scores. It's not like it's a random good round of golf.”
