Bubba sets high-water mark in Panhandle

Bubba, Heath and Boo.

Those aren’t the names of NASCAR’s hottest drivers or the stars of the Grand Ole Opry’s newest act.

That’s how Milton (Fla.) High School’s famed trio of golfers fall today in the Official World Golf Ranking.

There’s a buzz at Ma Bass’ restaurant in downtown Milton today with Bubba Watson’s victory Sunday at the Farmers Insurance Open. The victory vaults Watson to No. 18 in the world rankings, the highest any of the Florida Panhandle trio has ranked in the threesome's rise in the world of golf. Heath Slocum sits at No. 58 today with Boo Weekley at No. 238.

Slocum, however, is still the winningest Milton Panther on Tour. The trio’s combined for eight PGA Tour titles.

Watson’s victory was the second PGA Tour title of his career, ranking him behind Slocum (4) and equaling him with Weekley on the Tanglewood Country Club alumni list. They all grew up playing the course.
