'Bubble Boy' Crane WDs, citing bad back

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Ben Crane’s season is over.

Entering the week at 125th on the FedEx Cup points standings, Crane was the longest of longshots to advance in the playoffs, but that won’t happen, as he withdrew from The Barclays during the second round because of a back injury.

“Just disappointed, just bummed,” said Crane, who admitted it hurt on every swing. “I mean, I just figured some stuff out this week, and was really excited about it. And it showed up in the first round, and then, you know, obviously not feeling good prevents you from doing what you want to do. There's a certain level of pain that you just can't take anymore.”

After an opening-round 4-under 67, Crane bogeyed two of his first four holes in the second round before pulling out of the tournament.

He maintained he would have the disk injury evaluated and hopes to return for the beginning of the 2013-14 season.

Earlier in the week, Crane released a music video titled “Bubble Boy” about his placement in the standings.
