Byrd loses father

RSS

BETHESDA, Md. – Jonathan Byrd’s father, Jim, died just before 2 a.m. on July 7 near his home in Columbia, S.C.  He was 65.

Jim Byrd was diagnosed with a brain tumor in the fall of 2007 after collapsing at a Clemson-Virginia Tech football game.

Doctors removed the malignant growth in 2008, but discovered the tumor had returned shortly afterward and Jim Byrd had been undergoing treatment. Jonathan Byrd withdrew from this week’s John Deere Classic on Monday as his father’s condition worsened and he was in Columbia on Tuesday.

Funeral services for Jim Byrd are scheduled for Thursday in Columbia, S.C.
