Cabreras green jacket entrusted to more than a friend

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Anyone passing through the neighborhood where Angel Cabrera was renting a home would have done a double take the morning after Cabrera won the Masters last year.

Charlie Epps, Cabrera’s swing coach and friend, staggered out into the driveway to pick up the newspaper wearing the green jacket over his pajamas.

“It was a little large for me,” Epps said. “Forty-six long.”

Epps has gotten close to the jacket this past year. As an expression of thanks for all his help, Cabrera turned the jacket over to Epps to take care of for him. The jacket hung in the closet of Epps’ Houston home. Epps took it out only when Cabrera requested it.

“He just said, `Here, you take care of it,’” Epps said. “I never showed it off. He also gave me the trophy to take care of for a couple months.”
