Tiger Woods won’t be at the Tour Championship next week, something sure to dent interest in the FedEx Cup Playoffs’ finale, but there are several strong storylines possible, just as there was at the end of Sunday's BMW Championship.
Paul Casey, snubbed in the European Ryder Cup selection, is among the intriguing possibilities. He is one of five players who controls his own destiny with a victory at East Lake in Atlanta. He’s fifth in the FedEx Cup points reset. Every player among the top five in points is guaranteed to win the FedEx Cup by winning the Tour Championship.
Casey, though, will be the one and only player at East Lake who could win the FedEx Cup without having won this entire PGA Tour season.
If Casey finishes second at East Lake in Atlanta, he’ll have 3,100 points. He’ll win the entire FedEx Cup enchilada if Matt Kuchar then finishes fifth or worse, Dustin Johnson finishes fourth or worse, Charley Hoffman and Steve Stricker finish third or worse and nobody else currently inside the top 10 in points wins the Tour Championship.
