PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Considering how much focus the golf world put on Tiger Woods and his ailing left leg this week it’s little surprise that another pair of potential withdrawals not only rounded all 18 holes, but they played well considering the circumstances.
Angel Cabrera, a week removed from surgery to repair a tear in his lower intestines in Charlotte, N.C., is 2 under after a first-round 70, and defending champion Tim Clark, sidelined for much of this season with an ailing right elbow, gritted his way to an opening 74.
“I’m still probably 70, 80 percent. There’s still a niggle in the elbow,” Clark said on Wednesday. “I played (the Masters) and really after that I didn’t touch a club again until a couple days ago.”
