Challenging setup

OAKMONT, Pa. – The second hole is one of the two driveable par 4s at Oakmont for the U.S. Women's Open, but not so much in today's first round.

The tees are on the back teeing ground at 325 yards. The forward teeing ground is 265 there.

The 17th, the other short par 4, is set up from the second most forward teeing ground at 255 yards.

The eighth hole, a long par 3, is playing 243 yards.

Mike Davis, the senior director of competition for the U.S. Golf Association, reports that the greens are running at the high end of 13 on the stimpmeter after evening and morning watering. That is the same as Wednesday's practice round.
