Chamblee: Major champs deserve more world ranking points

With a win in the 112th U.S. Open, Tiger Woods can reach No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking, thanks to a haul of 100 ranking points.
Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee believes a major champion is deserving of a greater reward.
On "Morning Drive" on Friday, Chamblee said the premium in the world-ranking formula for winning a major, compared to other big events like World Golf Championships and The Players Championship, does not match how players and fans view their importance.
The winner of a major championship gets 100 world ranking points. The next-highest amount a player can get is 80 points, given to the winner of The Players Championship. A major title, according to Chamblee, deserves to stand out more in the ranking.
"Only giving 100 points for a major win is a slight," he said. "How many wins would a player trade for a major? I'd say it’s in the range of four or five wins. I don't know if it should be four, five hundred points for winning a major, but we see the discrepancy in the ranking at the highest level."
