Change in attitude means change in latitude for Adams

RSS

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Blake Adams picked a great time to match his round of the year.

Adams shot 6-under 66 Thursday at TPC Sawgrass and sits one off early leader Ian Poulter at The Players Championship.

A change in attitude may have been the patch Adams' game needed.

'I told my swing coach, John Tillery, and my caddie, Barry Williams, let's just have fun,' he said. 'I've been trying to hit perfect golf shots every week and not getting a whole lot out of it. I'm playing golf for a living. Let's have fun, hit some greens, make some putts, move onto the next thing.'

This round came out of the blue. This is just his second sub-70 round in his last 10. Adams had missed three of his last four cuts.

The trick will be following this round with another good one. Adams opened the Humana Challenge with 66 in his second event of the year but finished T-54. He finished T-9 in Puerto Rico, closing with three consecutive 68s for his lone top 10 of the year.

Adams hopes to maintain the same mindset on Friday, but as he lurks near the lead, he cannot help but imagine what this event could mean for his ultimate dream.

'My goal has always been as a kid to walk the fairways of Augusta,' he said. 'If I win this tournament, if I win the John Deere – that's my World Series in Augusta.'
