Choi hopes to be first to win back-to-back Players

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – K.J. Choi will attempt to do something this week that has never been done. That is making a successful defense of The Players Championship.

Since its founding in 1974, no player has won it in consecutive years.

The biggest obstacle to winning here back-to-back is having the focus required for eight consecutive rounds at the Stadium Course, TPC Sawgrass.

'You have to control your emotions,' Choi said on Tuesday. 'You have to set your expectations low and not ignore all of the risks that are out there. If you lose one shot, then that could be it. That could be the end of the tournament.'

Considered one of the most democratic courses on the PGA Tour, almost any player can contend if they are playing well.

'I think this course is good, in a way, because it gives a fair chance to both guys who can hit the ball long, as well as guys who don't hit it as long,” Choi said. “So everybody has a chance.'
