No one can accuse Boo Weekley of being easily distracted. Contacted early Thursday for his thoughts on Davis Love III being named the next U.S. Ryder Cup captain the man from Milton, Fla., couldn’t contain his surprise, “He is? Really?”
Weekley has a unique perspective on a Love captaincy. The two spent time together during the off-season at Frederica Golf Club in coastal Georgia and he also played for Paul Azinger at the 2008 matches.
“I think it would be a good idea if Davis called Paul up. They are similar to each other,” said Weekley, who was a stroke off the lead following the first round of the Bob Hope Classic. “It would be nice if he called Paul to be one of his co-captains. The more winners you surround yourself with the more likely you are to be a winner.”
Weekley was also certain DL3 will be a popular pick among the players. “A lot of players have a lot of respect for Davis. He’s going to be a good one.”
