ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Stewart Cink’s reign as the Open champion officially came to an end Sunday afternoon to a warm applause from the appreciative St. Andrews gallery. He said earlier in the week that he doubts if many of the past champions have done more than he with the claret jug while in their possession.
His only disappointment was that he didn’t play better at the Old Course, but he’s not surprised because he hasn’t played that well over the past couple months. Cink shot 70-74-71-74 and ended at 1 over par.
“It was still a great week,” Cink said. “It was fun the whole way but it was frustrating that I didn’t play better.”
