Love life, home life lead to Clarke's turnaround

SANDWICH, England – Among the litany of things Darren Clarke said have contributed to his turnaround, a comeback that has lifted him into a tie for second place at Royal St. George’s, were an impromptu session with sports psychologist Dr. Bob Rotella this week, a move home to Northern Ireland and his recent engagement to Alison Campbell.

The two met on a blind date that was set up by Graeme McDowell and after his second-consecutive 68 at the Open Championship Clarke said “she’s been very instrumental in getting my life back on track.”

When informed that Campbell is a former Miss Northern Ireland a reporter asked Clarke, aren’t you a former Mr. Northern Ireland? “Oh, every year,” he laughed.

McDowell and Rory McIlroy may have different opinions.
