Clarke in giving mood, good 'spirits'

SANDWICH, England – Darren Clarke’s affinity for Guinness is legendary in golf circles, as is his generosity.

Following his victory at a European Tour event in Spain earlier this year he purchased a round of drinks for an entire Easyjet flight to Belfast. After his first European Tour victory Clarke’s father, Godfrey, said his son called home to a local bar in Dungannon, Northern Ireland, and opened a tab for everyone in his name.

“I don’t know if he will do the same tonight,” Godfrey Clarke said.

Clarke appeared to be in generous spirits following his victory on Sunday at Royal St. George’s, having champagne delivered to the press tent. With the claret jug in tow, not to mention his 900,000 pound winner’s check, it’s likely there will be no shortage of rounds on Clarke.
