Former Minnesota women's golf coach Katie Brenny served a lawsuit Jan. 11 against the university, claiming that as a lesbian she faced discrimination from director of golf John Harris, according to Golfweek.com.Brenny, 30, resigned last fall after two months on the job. She is seeking “in excess of $50,000” as determined by a Minnesota Human Rights Act state statute, Golfweek.com reported.
In the lawsuit, Brenny alleges that Harris minimized her coaching duties upon learning shortly after hiring her that she is a lesbian. Brenny had signed a one-year contract worth $44,000. Golfweek reported she was not allowed to travel to team events or offer swing instruction at practice.
