Conway Farms to replace Cog Hill as BMW Championship host

When the BMW Championship returns to Chicago in 2013, the Second City will offer a new host.

Conway Farms will replace Cog Hill’s Dubsdread Course as the home of the event when it is played in the Chicago area, according to the Chicago Tribune. Cog Hill hosted the former Western Open from 1991-2006, then the renamed BMW Championship in each successive year except 2008.

Conway Farms had been rumored to replace Cog Hill since last year, when world No. 1 Luke Donald endorsed Conway Farms as the new site.

"I know Conway Farms and North Shore CC – a place I play sometimes – are ones they're looking at [for the move]," said Donald of his home course in an interview last September. "I think Conway Farms is probably the favorite right now and it's a great test and a very good golf course."

Since Rees Jones performed a $5 million renovation of Cog Hill in 2008, the work has been widely criticized. Phil Mickelson has been among those especially vocal about the quality of the work.

"This will be the last year we play here, so hopefully we'll make the most of it and then we'll move on," Mickelson said at last year’s tournament.

The 2012 event will be played in Indiana at Crooked Stick, then will return to Chicago for its debut at Conway Farms before moving to Denver’s Cherry Hills for the 2014 edition. The tournament would return to Chicago in ’15, with a rumored Olympic-year stop at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.
