DUBLIN, Ohio – The worst-kept secret since the USGA and R&A declared war on the anchored stroke became official on Wednesday.
U.S. Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples named Davis Love III his second assistant captain for this year’s matches. A year ago at Muirfield Village when Couples was named captain for the third time, he suggested Love would be among his assistants but, as Love said on Tuesday, “you have to wait until he makes it official.”
Couples made the decision while riding in a golf cart with another assistant for this year’s matches, Jay Haas, at a Champions Tour event in Mississippi in March.
“We had a lot of fun at the Ryder Cup last year,” said Love, who tabbed Couples as one of his assistants for last year’s Ryder Cup at Medinah. “It will be nice to be back on the less pressure side of it. I’ll let Fred make all the speeches.”
