A crazy idea

RSS

Just like when I played the PGA Tour, I've been getting weekends off lately. I've been wanting to play golf on Saturday mornings but I have two kids that have basketball and other functions that keep me from hitting the course.

So how about this idea?

Wouldn't it be great if a course in my area offered a 7 a.m. shotgun start on Saturday mornings? And how about an 8 inch cup to speed things up? Players would be encouraged to play forward tees and the competition would be stableford scoring with bogey being the highest score that earns a point. Out of bounds would be treated like a lateral hazard and you can't lose a ball in a maintained area. And here is the kicker! The horn blows at 9:45 a.m. – pick up your ball and head in. Can't even complete the hole you are on.

A golf fix would be fed and everyone would be headed for the rest of their day with a smile on their face. Normal play to the regulation holes already on the course would begin at 10 a.m. And I'm betting many of those players would enjoy playing to the bigger holes. What do you think?
