Crazy plays at Womens British

Half the fun of the British Open is seeing pros play shots on links courses that they’re not accustomed to playing.

It’s the same for the women this week at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

Folks watching Friday morning’s telecast saw Ai Miyazato whiff on a chip shot from the tall grass near the 14th green. She won last week. They also saw Michelle Wie slam a shot from a fairway bunker at the 18th hole into the bunker’s sod wall, where it bounced back at her, forcing her to dodge out of the way. She needed two shots to get out and closed with a costly double bogey. Cristie Kerr did the same thing at the 14th hole, slamming a greenside bunker shot into the sod wall and also needing two to get out. She made double bogey.

And then there’s In-Kyung Kim, who made a sextuple bogey-11 on the sixth hole Thursday and a double bogey-7 on the same hole Friday and still made the cut. She’s 7 over for the championship, 8 over on that one hole.
