Creamer 16-to-1 shot to claim another major

RSS

Paula Creamer would probably love another letter from Arnold Palmer and another special trophy to mesmerize her.

She goes off with Scotland’s Catriona Matthew and England’s Florentyna Parker when she begins her bid to win back-to-back major championships in Thursday’s start of the Ricoh Women’s British Open.

Matthew is the defending champ and Parker’s a local favorite and member of Royal Birkdale Golf Club, home to this week’s championship.

The threesome is off at 2:14 a.m. (ET).

Creamer was asked about some of the unexpected benefits of winning the U.S. Women’s Open three weeks ago.

“Arnold Palmer wrote me a really nice letter, and I thought that was just very classy,” she said. “ My house smells fantastic right now with all of these beautiful flowers that I got from all of my sponsors and my friends. But I think the day that the trophy came was very special. I just stared at it for a while. I didn't even want to touch it. I was like, `I can't believe this happened.’”

British bookmakers have set the odds on Creamer to win at 16-to-1, same as on fellow American Cristie Kerr. Jiyai Shin is the favorite at 8-to-1 with Na Yeon Choi next at 10-to-1. Ai Miyazato at 12-to-1 and Suzann Pettersen at 14-to-1.
