Creamer's flourish secures solo 3rd at Liverpool

RSS

There was 30-mph wind and driving rain, no under-par rounds and 13 players who shot in the 80s.

So it was little surprise, then, that Paula Creamer’s even-par 72 Sunday afternoon at the Ricoh Women’s British Open was enough to rocket her up the leaderboard, all the way to solo third, matching the American’s best finish in a major since her victory at the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open.

After turning in 37, Creamer bogeyed Nos. 10, 11 and 14 at Royal Liverpool to drop to 4 over for the day, but she played the final four holes in 4 under – including an eagle on the par-5 16th – to post 1-over 289. She finished 10 shots behind winner Jiyai Shin.

It’s the second consecutive event in which Creamer was outplayed by Shin, now a two-time major winner. On Monday, Shin undueled Creamer in the longest two-woman playoff in LPGA history, winning the Kingsmill Championship on the ninth extra hole.
