Daddy Donald gives Crane a baby shower gift

RSS

Synergy rarely arrives on cue but on this karma seemed to hit the mark.

Earlier this month Ben Crane won the McGladrey Classic and celebrated the birth of his third child the next day back home in Texas. Last week Luke Donald announced he would skip this week’s WGC-HSBC Champions event to be at home with his wife for the birth of their second child.

Fittingly, Donald’s spot in the lucrative field went to Crane. Consider it a baby shower gift, from one father to another.

Crane played last week’s CIMB Asia Pacific Classic in Malaysia, where he was the defending champion, and his management team had already started the process of securing him a work visa to play the HSBC.

“It’s really a cool story that (Crane) replaced Luke in the field,” said Crane’s manager Tommy Limbaugh with 4U Management. “It’s tough for him to be away from home but he’s excited.”

Officials at the CIMB event helped expedite Crane’s visa and he was expected to be in Shanghai by Tuesday.

“Off to Chinese embassy to meet their ambassador and get work visa,” Crane tweeted on Sunday.
