Decision reversed; Hull allowed to play Curtis Cup

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – England’s Charley Hull reveled in a surprising reversal by the Ladies Golf Union that will allow her to play for Great Britain/Ireland this summer.

Hull, who turned 16 just last week, went out and birdied the first hole of her first major championship appearance Thursday at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. With scoring tough, she opened impressively with a 1-under-par 71.

Hull learned only Wednesday that a decision that would have kept her out of the Curtis Cup had been reversed. With Hull choosing to accept a Kraft Nabisco Championship invitation, she missed a mandatory Curtis Cup practice. The LGU controversially rescinded Hull’s invite because of that. A backlash, however, followed the decision, leading to the reversal.

“I’m back on the team now,” Hull said. “I was upset, obviously, but now I’m really happy.”

Hull is the seventh ranked amateur woman in the world.
