Defending champ Crane in contention at McGladrey

RSS

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Sunday will be a long haul for the likes of Ben Crane and Brian Harman, and that’s whether or not they convert their opportunity on the McGladrey Classic leaderboard into a victory.

Both players, along with Brendon De Jonge and Chris Kirk, are headed to next week’s CIMB Classic after play ends on Sunday, a journey that takes about 21 hours and delivers the group, baring delays, in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday morning.

“Got to make hay when the sun shines,” smiled Harman, who carded a 5-under 65 on Saturday that left him tied for 29th at Sea Island.

For Crane, who has been slowed by injury the last few weeks, things could become dicey. The defending champion is currently tied for sixth and scheduled to tee off at 12:35 p.m. He has a 5 p.m. flight out of the nearby Brunswick, Ga., airport to Atlanta.

“Might have to adjust that a little bit,” said Crane, who won the CIMB event in 2010.
