Defending champ out of playoffs

NORTON, Mass. – Vijay Singh’s playoff run is over.

With a final-round 73 Monday at the Deutsche Bank Championship, the defending FedEx Cup champion was eliminated halfway through the playoffs.

Singh, who won’t play the Tour Championship for the first time in 15 years, loves to play, but he’ll have the next three weeks off.

What’s he going to do?

“I don’t know,” said Singh, 46. “I haven’t even looked at it yet. I’ll have to figure it out.”

Singh won The Barclays and the Deutsche Bank Championship last year to take the drama out of the final two weeks of the playoffs. This year, he missed the cut at The Barclays and sealed his fate at TPC Boston Monday with bogeys at two of the final three holes.

Singh entered the Deutsche Bank Championship 78th in FedEx Cup points. The top 70 move on to the BMW Championship this week. Singh left the course projected at 81st in points.
