SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. – It sure didn’t look like Justin Thomas was dealing with a back injury.
Forced out of Sunday foursomes because of pain in his lower back, the former Alabama star jumped out to an early lead against GB&I’s Max Orrin and cruised to a 6-and-4 victory at the Walker Cup.
The singles win moved Thomas’ record this week to 2-0-1 – not bad for a player who, every few holes, needed to rub a pain-relieving cream on his left side.
Thomas admitted that he was “concerned” about the back injury and will have it checked out in the next few days. The 2012 NCAA Player of the Year will turn pro after this event, forgoing his final two years of eligibility at Alabama.
