Donald's clean sweep: Euro and PGA Tour player of year

Luke Donald completed a clean sweep of the money lists and player of the year awards of golf's two major tours on Thursday, being named the European Tour's Golfer of the Year.

The voters, comprised of golf journalists and commentators, valued Donald's remarkable consistency in awarding him the honor.

“To have the accolade of European Tour Golfer of the Year means an awful lot to me and I will certainly look back on this year with a lot of fond memories,” said Donald in a release.

“It is always nice to be appreciated, especially from the people in the sport who know the game inside out. They have recognized what I have done this year and it is very gratifying to have that validation.'

Donald won the PGA Tour player of the year award on Tuesday, capping off a year in which he became the first member of both tours to win their respective money lists.

The world No. 1 had four worldwide wins in 2011 - three recognized by the European Tour - as part of a season with 19 top-10 finishes in 26 starts.
