Drives of the Week: Farthest, fastest from Zurich

RSS

Each week, GolfChannel.com will take a detailed look at the players who pounded the farthest and fastest drives on the PGA Tour. Here are the four most important distance-related stats from the Zurich Classic, won by Billy Horschel

Longest drive: Michael Letzig, 376 yards

Not even the rain-soaked fairways at TPC Louisiana could prevent Letzig from launching this chart-topping blast. It came on the par-5 second hole in the second round, though the added distance only helped the 32-year-old journeyman post a T-47 in New Orleans.

Last four leaders: Hilton Head: Camilo Villegas, 386 yards; San Antonio: Luke List, 371; Houston: Graham DeLaet, 420; Bay Hill: Robert Garrigus, 369

Carry distance: Graham DeLaet, 307.3 yards

It was the second time this season that the Canadian topped this category. Though impressive, this week’s blast paled in comparison to his 324.2-yard carry distance at PGA National, which still holds up as the best of the season. In New Orleans, DeLaet finished T-47.

Last four leaders: Hilton Head: Zach Johnson, 282.6 yards; San Antonio: Rory McIlroy, 314.1; Houston: Charlie Beljan: 302.4; Bay Hill: Justin Rose, 300.6

Clubhead speed: Luke List, 124.76

The former Vanderbilt standout finds himself atop this category for the second time this season, and first since the Sony Open in Hawaii, when he posted a 119.72 ball speed – more than 5 mph less than in the Big Easy. List was 31st at the Zurich.

Last four leaders: Hilton Head: Robert Garrigus, 121.23 mph; San Antonio: Charlie Beljan, 123.51; Houston: Beljan, 124.94; Bay Hill: Beljan, 125.95

Ball speed: Luke List, 184.69 mph

Not surprisingly, List was also the best in this category, earning top honors for the third time this season, and first since he went back-to-back earlier this year at the Humana Challenge and Farmers Insurance Open. This week’s 184.69 ball speed was the second-best this season, behind only Charlie Beljan's 184.90 in Houston.

Last four leaders: Hilton Head: Robert Garrigus, 180.02 mph; San Antonio: Charlie Beljan, 181.46; Houston: Beljan, 184.90; Bay Hill: Beljan, 183.95
