PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – At 290 yards Mike Davis figured the par-4 fourth hole would be a pleasant diversion from the normal U.S. Open grind. What Dustin Johnson did on Saturday was something else altogether.
The big-hitting southerner ripped his tee shot to 5 feet for eagle. The rub? He hit 3-iron.
“I heard Mike (Davis) ask another official, ‘Did he just hit 3-iron?’” Johnson’s caddie Bobby Brown said.
When asked about the incident after the round Davis could only smile, “No comment.”
Breathless, like the rest of us.
