Dye not bothered by low scores at Crooked Stick

CARMEL, Ind. – Watching all these birdies this week at the BMW Championship, you half expect to see Pete Dye roll onto Crooked Stick in a bulldozer to toughen things up.
“I don’t think Pete Dye is going to like this,” Tiger Woods said after opening the tournament with a 65.
Crooked Stick was architect Dye’s first notable creation. His Indiana connections run deep. His wife, fellow architect Alice Dye, was born in Indianapolis and won the city women’s amateur title 11 times and the state women’s amateur title nine times. They have a home off Crooked Stick’s 18th fairway.
The Dyes are here this week, but The Sunday Star of Indianapolis reported Pete isn’t bothered a bit by the low scoring with conditions so soft.
In fact, Dye said he predicted before the tournament that 20 under par would win. Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh went into the final round each at 16 under.
The Dyes, whose work can drive PGA Tour pros crazy, are immensely popular in Indiana. So much so that Pete said he has been watching the event on TV and staying off the course.
“I get mobbed out there,” Dye, 86, told the newspaper. “I hide.”
