Early reports from Augusta National

There is no shortage of players making early scouting trips to Augusta National in the days leading up to the year’s first major although Monday and Tuesday’s heavy rains in the southeast cut short some of that preparation for the likes of Lee Westwood, who ventured to Georgia on Sunday.

Among the preliminary reports from beyond Magnolia Lane is talk of possible new hole locations on Nos. 11 and 17.

According to one “advanced scout” the greens at the 11th and 17th have been “flattened,” creating the possibility for new back-left hole locations at No. 11 and back right at the 17th.

In 2010 the back left portion of the 11th green (33 paces on and 6 paces from the left edge) and back right area on the 17th (26 paces on and 7 from the right edge) were used just once (Saturday).
