East Carolina signee dies in swimming incident

RSS

Trevor Times, an 18-year-old from Williamsburg, Va., who signed to play golf at East Carolina University this fall, disappeared Monday while swimming and was later found dead, according to a report by Golfweek.

The report says that Times was last seen shortly after 2 p.m. Monday swimming near a sand bar offshore in a popular James City swimming spot called College Creek. The James City County Police Department immediately dispatched a search but that mission was suspended for darkness later that evening. Times' body was found the next morning by a dive team.

The news hit the East Carolina men's team hard as it was at Riviera Country Club this week for the NCAA Division I Championship. The Pirates received word Monday evening that Times was presumed dead, then were notified the next day when his body was officially recovered. After Wednesday's second round, East Carolina was tied for 23rd place. The top eight teams after Thursday's third round qualify for the match play portion of the championship.

Times was scheduled to graduate in less than a month from Jamestown High School and last tied for third place in the state high school golf tournament.

Funeral services for Times are at 2 p.m. Friday in Williamsburg. The family has requested that donations be made to the ECU Educational Foundation Inc./Golf.
