As easy at 1 2 3 in Dubai

RSS

The European Tour, taking a cue from the PGA Tour, will give the masses what they want for Rounds 1 and 2 at this week’s Dubai Desert Classic.

World Nos. 1 (Lee Westwood), 2 (Martin Kaymer) and 3 (Tiger Woods) will be paired together for the first time in a European Tour event (non-major and World Golf Championship) since 1994.

The PGA Tour started tinkering with tee times this year, pairing Woods and Rocco Mediate at Torrey Pines and Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson last week at TPC Scottsdale, and those expecting a shake up in the world order may get their wish.

Only Woods (45.446) and Mickelson have lost more World Ranking points this year than Westwood (38.051), while only Mark Wilson has gained more points than Kaymer (58.16) in 2011.

The German’s 2011 schedule also assures he will have an opportunity to overtake Westwood.

According to Johan Elliott, Kaymer’s manager with Sportyard, he will play the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, WGC-Cadillac Championship, The Players Championship, the Masters and probably the Transitions Championship and Wells Fargo Championship before returning to Europe for the Volvo World Match Play and BMW PGA Championship in May.
