Eight of 18 competitors find water at 15 on Saturday

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – How tough was the par-3 15th hole at Sherwood Country Club on Saturday? There were 11 balls that found the water hazard surrounding the green – and only 18 players in the Northwestern Mutual World Challenge field.

With an unsteady wind gusting into the players’ faces and left to right, the 189-yard hole yielded a scoring average of 4.167 for the third round. That includes seven pars, four bogeys, three doubles, three quadruple-bogeys and just a single birdie, posted by Jason Day.

Eight of the 18 competitors found the hazard, including three who hit two balls into it.

“It’s just super gusty,” said Keegan Bradley, one of three players to card a 7 on the hole. “You’ve almost got to get lucky. I got two substantial gusts when I was hitting. … I actually hit a good shot, it came up short, but it was right at it. It’s just one of those holes where you can get a super unlucky gust and you’re done. It almost doesn’t matter what you do.”
