Ernie Els is 2-for-2 this month with longtime looper Ricci Roberts on his bag but not even a near-perfect Florida Swing will change the Big Easy’s mind about a pre-arranged caddie swap for the Masters.
Els said Monday at Bay Hill after he held off Kevin Na and Edoardo Molinari that Dan Quinn, a former NHL player who became friends with the South African after they met at the Honda Classic two years ago, will be by his side in two weeks at Augusta National as originally planned.
“We’ve made a decision and we’re going to stick to it,” said Els, who also won the WGC-CA Championship earlier this month with Roberts as his caddie. “We’ve got yardage books going back 15 years (at Augusta National), so we’ll be OK.”
The plan is for Quinn and Roberts to platoon on Els’ bag this year, with each getting about 13 starts apiece, including two majors per man. At the rate Els is going, there should be plenty of victories to go around.
