Englishmen going up the hill

RSS

The English resurgence in golf continues.

With Luke Donald’s leap to No. 9 in the Official World Golf Ranking today, there are four Englishmen among the top 10 for the first time since the rankings were created in 1986.

That’s No. 3 Lee Westwood, No. 7 Ian Poulter and No. 8 Paul Casey to go with Donald.

With the U.S. Open heading to Bethpage Black eight years ago, there wasn’t a single Englishman in the top 60 in the world rankings.

With the start of the U.S. Open just 18 days away, here’s how Ladbrokes rates England’s chances to win the championship for the first time since Tony Jacklin claimed it in 1970.

Westwood 16/1

Poulter 33/1

Casey 40/1

Donald 40/1

By the way, Tiger Woods is the favorite at 6/1 with Phil Mickelson at 7/1. Westwood’s third overall among favorites.
