Every motivated by fellow Gator Horschel

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – When Billy Horschel won the Zurich Classic earlier this year, his former University of Florida teammate Matt Every was one of the first people to congratulate him on the final green.

Maybe Horschel will get a chance to repay the gesture this weekend.

With opening rounds of 69-62, Every raced out to a one-stroke lead entering the third round of The Greenbrier Classic. Don’t discredit the inspiration he received from watching his buddy win one already.

“It has motivated me,” Every said of Horschel’s success. “I know I can win out here. It didn't take Billy winning to know that. It's not like a jealous motivation. I mean, I was really genuinely happy for Billy when he won. But it is a motivation because, you know, it's just like college when I went to the University of Florida, Camilo [Villegas] was there and he was the best player and I wanted to be the best player there. So I just kept going and it wasn't like I rooted against him, it's just that's who I measured myself up against when I was there. Not that I'm measuring myself up against Billy but he's pretty good right now; he's one of the best in the world right now.”

Every’s round on Friday included eight birdies without a bogey and he credited his putting for getting him into the lead.

“I played really well tee to green, finally made some putts,” he said. “I haven't made anything all year and it just finally happened today. Been waiting for it.”
