Faldo chastises Bubba for skipping Players Championship

Six-time major winner Nick Faldo took Masters champion Bubba Watson to task on Saturday for his decision to skip next week's Players Championship.

'Very surprised at that,' Faldo said during the CBS telecast of the Wells Fargo Championship. 'You're the Masters champion. It's the Players Championship. You should really be there. The way that course is set up, it always plays tough and breezy. He could be one of the favorites. So I would say that's a poor decision.'

Watson tweeted Thursday he would not play next week at TPC Sawgrass and perhaps the month of May, instead choosing to spend time at home with his wife, Angie, and newly adopted son, Caleb. Caleb cannot leave the state of Florida while the adoption process in finalized.

In his last start, Watson finished T-18 in his title defense at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He indicated at TPC Louisiana he would consider taking more time off to spend with his family.

Watson has previously played five times in The Players Championship, missing the cut three times and finishing no better than T-37.
