Father, time: Cabrera's son and caddie oversleeps

DUBLIN, Ohio – Another missed alarm, another mad dash to the golf course, although this time it was a caddie, not a player racing traffic and time at an international team competition.

Angel Cabrera Jr., who caddies for his father Angel, overslept on Saturday morning and didn’t make it to the golf course on time for the restart of the second session.

Greg Hearmon, this week’s caddie captain and a veteran Tour looper, filled in for Cabrera Jr. when the groups set out at 7:33 a.m. (ET) on the 14th hole. Cabrera Jr. was back on the job by the time his father and Marc Leishman finished the 15th hole.

Cabrera Jr. even took the time to shake everyone’s hand on the 16th tee, and the late arrival didn’t seem to impact the International team. Cabrera and Leishman won the match, 2 and 1.

Rory McIlroy needed a police escort to the golf course on Sunday at last year’s Ryder Cup after a time zone snafu.
