RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – The forecast is for cooler temperatures Friday at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
The high is projected only to reach 99 degrees.
It was 102 degrees on Thursday.
That’s good news, bad news for caddies.
The tour rule is that caddies can only remove their white bibs when temperatures reach 100 degrees.
“There’s some leeway there,” one LPGA official said.
Several caddies removed their bibs in Thursday’s first round, and a number of players walked under open umbrellas.
“Luckily, I’m from Florida, so it wasn’t too bad,” Brittany Lincicome said after taking a share of the lead with a 6-under-par 66. “But there was definitely times where I was, like, `I gotta find the shade.’”
Stacy Lewis, the other co-leader, relished the heat.
“I grew up in Texas in the summers, so I’m used to playing golf when it’s over 100 degrees,” Lewis said. “I say, `Bring it,’ because the ball goes a mile.”
