With the world golf calendar clear next week, the year-end Official World Golf Ranking will come out on Sunday. The year-end top 50 will be assured of an invitation to the Masters. In the case of a quartet of players, they are competing for a ticket to Augusta.
In Thailand, Ryo Ishikawa is holding onto the 50th position by a thread. Ishikawa will have to improve his position at the Thailand Golf Championship by half to ensure an April trip to Augusta. Tied for 64th after two rounds, he must finish inside the top 37 to rank 50th or higher.
One player who doesn’t have to worry about finishing in the top 50 is Lee Westwood, but he has another goal. Leading the Thailand field by 11 shots at the halfway mark, Westwood would overtake Rory McIlroy to end the year at No. 2 with a win or solo second-place finish.
